You were born creative...

"As for how to be more creative more
often, sit down and work. Even if junk
comes out, sitting down and getting to
work is what matters."
David Horvath

I'm going to destroy another myth for
you today - the myth that there is
something mystical about being
creative.

You may think that only some special
people are creative. And you'd be
wrong.

You were born creative! But you may
have had it trained out of you by
ignorant parents or teachers.

Children, all of them, are naturally
creative. Give a room full of kids
some crayons and see what
happens.

In my favorite story, the teacher
asks the little boy, "What are you
drawing?" and the boy replies, "A
picture of God."

The teacher, a logical adult, says,
"But no one knows what God looks
like." And the little boy replies, "Wait
til I'm finished!"

You see, that's the creative spirit
that we all have. And like the little
boy and our quote both say, the
secret to expressing your creative
spirit is to sit down and start
working.

The genius is in the editing, not the
first draft or first sketch. If it wasn't
for that, I wouldn't get anything
written.

The one thing you have to unlearn is
your adult rational critical mind. Allow
the natural you to just emerge - messy,
imperfect, childlike, unrealistic.

Albert Einstein came up with the
theory of relativity by daydreaming
that he was riding a bicycle at the
speed of light and wondering what
he would see in a mirror.

How logical, rational and adult is
that? You probably thought that
he did it with equations on a black
board. No, he did it with a child's
creative, imaginative mind.

The same child's mind that you
have. So use it. The way to be
creative is to sit down and work.

Get a box of crayons, too.

Many blessings,
Wes
